Domestics

Prefer something warm and timeless? Domestic hardwoods offer classic beauty options like White Oak, Birch, Maple, and American Cherry bring natural character and versatility, pairing well with both traditional and modern interiors to your home.

Reclaimed

Looking for character with history? Use salvaged wood from barns, churches, and older structures to create floors with a story. This eco-friendly option gives new life to aged materials while adding unique charm and authenticity to your space.

Textured

Want a more natural, lived-in look? Textured hardwood is ideal for homes with pets or active lifestyles. Hand-scraped or wire-brushed finishes add depth and character disguising everyday wear, delivering durability without sacrificing visual appeal.

Pattern

Want your floors to stand out? Patterned hardwood adds visual interest and refined style to any room. Designs like herringbone, parquet, or square basket create elegant statement floors, especially well-suited for formal or design-forward spaces.

Smooth

Prefer a clean and classic look? Smooth hardwood highlights the natural grain of the wood without added texture. It’s a timeless option that enhances light, creates flow between rooms, and works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary homes.

Prep Home

We will make sure the area is prepped for refinishing.

  • Removal of Furniture
  • We work with vetted companies to have your furniture professionally removed from the work area.
  • Clean work space for optimal refinishing
We make sure that the entire area is clean before we even start our work to ensure the best possible refinishing from start to finish.

Start Fresh

Where other companies skip from low to high grit sandpaper, here at Totta Hardwoods we do not skip any steps in your hardwood floor refinishing process. Our customers will be able to enjoy their updated flooring without worrying about an uneven finish or early signs of wear. Our proven process allows us to create a flat surface with as much durability as possible. We even go the extra mile to trowel-fill the entire floor with wood filler. This step eliminates any small gaps or cracks that may be in your floor making it look brand-new again. When coupled with our top of the line equipment, including planetary sanders, these steps ensure that your floors are as flat as possible.

Personalize your Hardwood Flooring

Totta Hardwoods has an extensive variety of hardwood flooring colors available.

We only use professional-grade stain made specifically for hardwood floors so it will not fade over time (bonus: our flooring is GreenGuard certified so it is more  Eco-friendly for your home). In addition, our team will water-pop each floor to open up the grain just before staining. This step ensures that the stain penetrates the wood deeply and evenly to maximize the life of your floor.

If staining doesn’t achieve the look you want, we have a variety of techniques to achieve the desired color and texture.

After achieving your desired color, your floor will be finished with three coats of high-quality professional-grade finish. We abrade the hardwood floors prior to applying the final coat so you are left with a finish that is as smooth as possible.

FAQ Refinishing

YES! Our entire standard finishing system is GREENGUARD air certified to ensure low chemical emissions. Therefore, it is safe for the home or workspace to remain occupied while the work is being performed.

It's recommended that you properly prepare your subfloor for flooring installation to remove any existing flooring, including carpet, tile, and linoleum.

Yes. Unless you purchase a prefinished hardwood floor, all onsite finished flooring is custom to the home. Onsite finished floors give customers the ability to choose stain color, texture, and finish sheen. Totta Hardwoods helps customers achieve the look they want by providing a custom wood floor and stair solution to match the customer's overall home design. Custom sample boards can be created to help finalize your design decision.

Furniture and appliances can be reset after 48 to 72 hours. Pets and rugs are allowed after 7 days.

All of our standard finishes dry in 3 hours, and are fully cured in 7 days. After the final coat is applied, please follow these guidelines:

  1. The floor can accept light traffic after 3 hours.
  2. Furniture and appliances can be reset after 48 to 72 hours.
  3. Pets and rugs are allowed after 7 days.
  4. Approved hardwood floor cleaner can be used after 7 days.

If you desire or need full access to your floor the same day, we have a UV upgrade that cures the floors the same day using specially formulated finish and a UV machine.

The amount of time depends on the size and scope of the project. Our in-home consultation is designed to understand your unique project, define the scope of work, and establish an estimated project timeline.

The cost of new floors depends on a couple of variables:

1. Materials: Wood species, grade, width, finish, or prefinished flooring options.

2. Style: texture, pattern, and color.

The answer depends on the homeowner. Most factory finished or prefinished floors have the following:

Positive:

  • Prefinished hardwood flooring offer a broader range of options for hand-scraping and distressed looks that can be achieved more economically than their on-site-finished counterpart.
  • Convenience:
    • Time Savings: The installation of a prefinished wood floor takes 1-3 days on average and there is no dry-time or cure time to contend with.
    • Furniture: furniture can be shuffled around the working area rather than completely removed from the house.
  • They can then be installed in one step without creating dust or fumes.

Negative:

  • Prefinished wood floors will never be as smooth and flat overall as an onsite finished floor.
  • You can experience some color variations between the boards since every piece is stained separately in a factory.
  • Manufacturers are constantly discontinuing product lines so it may be very challenging to obtain more of the same flooring down the line if you need to.

Solid Hardwood or engineered with a minimum of 4mm wear layer would be the recommended flooring option for households with children. Wood floors are hypoallergenic, durable, and easy to clean. They are hypoallergenic because they minimize the accumulation of dust, mold, and animal dander which promotes an overall healthier environment in the home. Because the wood floors can be refinished, you can revive the life of your floors multiple times over the child's time in your home. Cleaning messes are easy, from a quick dusting to cleaning up a child's spill. Regular maintenance will keep your floors from showing the wear seen in carpet and other vinyl options.

Solid wood or engineered wood with a minimum of 4mm wear layer is a great choice for homeowners with pets. Choosing a harder wood species will also minimize the wear and tear from pets. Brazilian Cherry or Ipe are very hard exotic wood, but come with a higher price tag. Hickory would be the best domestic wood choice followed by Hard Maple and White Oak. Wood floors minimize the accumulation of animal dander and hair. They are easier to clean and can be repaired vs replacing.

Good:
Living rooms, dining rooms, dens, bedrooms, kitchens

Not Good:
Doesn’t work well in places where water is in consistent contact with the floor. Bathrooms, Laundry rooms, mud rooms
